“Melo Movie” Tops Netflix Right After Release, Surpassing “The Trauma Code”

As of 2 PM on February 16, “Melo Movie” topped Netflix’s “TOP 10 Series in South Korea Today” chart, overtaking major titles in just two days. “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” ranked second, followed by “Love Scout” in third.

“Melo Movie” features a romantic pairing between actors Park Bo-young and Choi Woo-sik.

“Melo Movie” tells the story of young individuals who want both love and to achieve their dreams, helping each other overcome their traumas. Choi Woo-sik plays the role of Go-gyeom, a former minor actor turned film critic, while Park Bo-young portrays Kim Mu-bee, a woman who dislikes films but becomes a movie director. Other cast members include Lee Jun-young as Hong Shi-joon, an unknown composer, and Jeon So-nee as Son Joo-a, a scriptwriter and Hong Shi-joon’s ex-lover.

“Melo Movie” is directed by Oh Choong-hwan, known for “Castaway Diva” (2023), “Big Mouth” (2022), “Start-Up” (2020) and “Hotel Del Luna” (2019), and written by Lee Na-eun, the writer of “Our Beloved Summer” (2021).

Netflix explained, “It portrays a movie-like time where ambiguous youths who want to love and achieve their dreams discover each other, inspire each other and overcome trauma.”

The series has gained significant buzz not only due to its star-studded cast but also because of the collaboration between director Oh Chung-hwan (Hotel Del Luna, Start-Up, Big Mouth) and writer Lee Na-eun (Our Beloved Summer).

The drama’s release has sparked an overwhelmingly positive response. Viewers commented:
